Alternative to Suspension Enhancement for Towing with 2018 Chrysler Pacifica

When installing a new trailer hitch do I need to add extra springs and a transmission cooler?

The short answer to this question is-No. When installing a hitch like the Draw-Tite # 76046, those additional parts aren't necessary, but are designed to combat some of the negative effects that towing might take on your vehicle. With that said, there aren't any type of suspension enhancements or a transmission cooler that have been designed for your 2018 Chrysler Pacifica, but there are some other solutions that you could use to take the place of suspension enhancements.

Towing puts a lot of strain on the rear suspension of your vehicle, which can create unsafe conditions like vehicle squat that affect the handling of your vehicle while towing. If you don't have air bags or enhanced jounce bumpers available, a weight distribution hitch can be used to help distribute the tongue weight of the trailer over both axles of the tow vehicle instead of just the rear. We typically recommend using weight distribution any time the trailer weighs more than 50% of your tow vehicle, and you'll want to choose the correct weight distribution hitch based off of the tongue weight of your trailer. It looks like the Pacifica has a curb weight of 4330-lbs, so if you're towing a trailer that weighs more than 2200-lbs you'll be getting to a place where it's something to consider.

Because the towing capacity of your 2018 Pacifica is 3600-lbs a weight distribution hitch like the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - 7-Hole Shank - 6K GTW, 600 lbs TW # BLU36FR would be a good solution. This hitch provides you with a high quality weight distribution hitch that comes with integrated friction sway control that will work to prevent sway before it starts. You'll want to check the loaded tongue weight of your trailer and choose a weight distribution hitch where your tongue weight falls somewhere towards the middle of the prescribed tongue weight range of the system. If you don't have a way to measure the tongue weight, you can get something like the Sherline # 5780, which will always let you know when your trailer is properly loaded.

You'll also need a wiring harness, ball mount, hitch ball, hitch pin and clip to complete your towing package, so I've linked the available trailer wiring harnesses; you'll want to choose the correct one based off your trim package. I recommend using a ball mount kit like the # EBMK4 to complete your towing setup since it gives you everything else you would need to tow trailers with your 2018 Pacifica.

I've linked review videos of these parts for you to have a look at, as well as an installation video of the Draw-Tite hitch.
