Where to Mount a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2013 Ford Explorer

I have a Prodigy P2 and harness. Im ready to install the mounting bracket. Where is the best location? Im reluctant to drill holes in my brand new Explorer because I have no idea whats behind the factory dash.

After looking at some pictures of the interior on the 2013 Ford Explorer I could see two possible mounting locations for a brake controller. First, there does not appear to be a lot of room to the right of the steering wheel (if sitting in the driver seat) but the other side seems to have enough space below the vent left of the steering wheel. It is much less likely that there is anything behind that section. But you can crawl under the dash and shine a light up there to be sure.

The other location that seemed to be a possibility is in the center console forward of the gear selector. There should be a pocket that opens and you may be able to put the controller there. It will be less noticeable there and you will not accidentally bump it. Plus holes will not be noticed in that pocket.
