How to Determine Fit of Disc Brakes for Trailer With 2,000 lb Axle and 7 Inch Drum Brakes
Question:
I have a 2002 Load-Rite tandem pontoon trailer that needs new brakes. Do you have a kit that will fit? Would prefer Disc brakes. The current drum brakes are 7”. Any help or suggestions?

We do have a potential option for you, and since you mentioned your current drum brakes are 7 inches, that means very likely have a 2,000 lb axle. There isn't a specific fit we have for a 2002 Load Rite, so what you will need to do is some measuring in order to ensure the right fit.
The most likely kit that will work is the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR2D.
This is for 2,000 lb axles and is a hub and rotor kit, which is needed in order to switch to disc brakes from drum brakes. You will need to have a 4-bolt brake mounting flange, and also ensure the hub fits. To do this you will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. Both bearings should have L44649 and if so, this kit will work.
If you are unable to find the bearing numbers, you need to use digital caliper and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch and if you get 1.063" where the bearings ride this kit will work.
The other thing you will need is a hydraulic disc brake actuator because disc brakes use more psi than drum brakes. So you will need something like the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator - Disc Brakes # 099-175-20.
I have added links below to some video reviews, our entire selection of disc brake actuators, as well as a help article on adding disc brakes which you may want to check out.
