Transmission Cooler Increasing Towing Capacity

Question:

My vehicle states its towing capacity is 3500lbs but extended to 5000lbs with added ATF cooler installed. Would towing a 4000lbs trailer be safe and not cause any mechanical damage to the vehicle? What is your weight recommendation on percentages? I’ve read tow about 70-80 of max capacity. Thank you!

I would recommend going by your owners manual. If you have the ATF cooler installed, you can haul the 4,000lb trailer. Make sure that your hitch can withstand that load if you do not have the OEM hitch that came with the truck.
