Why Does 2015 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Use Different Trailer Hitch Than 2015 Jetta Non-TDI?

Question:

I have a 2015 Jetta TDI. Why wouldnt the Item # 306-X7311 fit my vehicle? There shouldnt be any differences between the gas and diesel model between the bumper and the metal skin/frame.

You are correct that bumper is the same, the issue is that behind the bumper on the passenger side of your 2016 Volkswagen Jetta TDI there are components that interfere would with the non-TDI trailer hitch receiver's like the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # 306-X7311 when installed as you can see in the included two pictures.

Curt does have a trailer hitch receiver that is designed around these differences and is confirmed to fit the TDI version, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11410. This trailer hitch receiver is great for carrying a bike rack, cargo carrier, or even light duty towing.

If you are planning on towing with your TDI you will also need trailer wiring harness # 118572, drawbar # C45520, and 1-7/8" hitch ball # C40001, or 2" hitch ball # C40018.

I included videos for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
