Kuat Transfer or Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack on 2020 Honda HR-V?
Question:
Hello, I am currently looking at hitch bike rack options form my Honda HRV 2020, AWD. Ive narrow it down to the following: Hitch: Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4 - C11416 Bike Rack Option 1: Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4 and 2 Hitches - Wheel Mount Bike Rack Option 2: Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4 Hitches - Wheel Mount What would be your recommendation for this combination. I prefer wheel mounts due to carbon frame. Thanks!

The Curt Hitch # C11416 for your 2020 Honda HR-V is a Class I hitch with a 200 tongue weight capacity. For that reason, the Yakima HoldUp # Y02445 is actually not compatible with this hitch since it is designed for Class II 1-1/4" hitch receivers. They did that because it can carry heavy electric bikes of up to 60 lbs each. 120 lbs of bike weight plus the 50 lbs rack weight can come close to maxing out Class I hitches.
Either way, I would still prefer the Kuat Transfer V2 # KU74FR for your 2020 Honda HR-V. Kuat redesigned the Transfer V2 very recently and it's years newer than the HoldUp. The Transfer is known for its goalpost design which makes it easier to mount and dismount bikes. When folded up, it's less likely to obstruct your backup camera or your license plate. You can also adjust the cradles up and down for a better fit for your two bikes. All in all, it's a very solid bike rack!
