My contact at Yakima confirms that the Rack and Roll Trailer, part # Y08107, is compatible with Class I, II and III hitches and since late 2010 comes standard with a 2-inch coupler. Originally the trailer was supplied with a 1-7/8 coupler and a running production change was made to move to the 2-inch. Yakima will supply at no charge a bolt-on 2-inch coupler, part # Y08123, to customers that receive a 1-7/8 unit and need the larger size. However, recent production should have a 2-inch coupler.
For either size the ideal hitch ball height is 22 inches. If your hitch ball is significantly higher or lower than the 22 inches you may want to use an adjustable ball mount to level the trailer for a better ride. If your receiver is a 2-inch size you can use MaxxTow part # MT70068.
Yakima also confirmed that other brands of round load bars are compatible with the Rack and Roll, as are the Thule square load bars. Please note that the trailer comes equipped with Yakima Roundbars as standard equipment.
A great future-proofing feature of this lightweight trailer is that is can be upgraded to deal with longer and heavier loads. The available heavy-duty shocks, part # Y08110, increase weight capacity to 300 lbs. The tongue extension kit, part # Y08109, adds 3 feet to the overall length and enables transporting a kayak as long as 22 feet (or two kayaks of 21 feet).
I have included links to both assembly and product review videos.
