Difference Between Dexter 3,500 lb Trailer Axles, EZ Lube vs. non EZ Lube
Question:
I am looking to replace my Al-Ko 3500 lb axles. Are the brake mount flanges fairly universal on 3500 lb axles? Are the bearings universal? What is the difference between the Dexter axles with the same dimensions? One is $, is there a difference? exter Trailer Axle Beam with Standard Spindles - 89 Long - 3,500 lbs Item # T3584F-8974

Expert Reply:
Brake flanges on 3,500 lb axles are going to be the exact same between a Dexter axle and Lippert but sometimes the Al Ko options are different.
I believe you are asking about the price difference between the Dexter 3,500 lb axles part # T3584F-8974 and # T3584F-EZ-8974 though which that comes down to the spindle style. The more expensive EZ lube spindle axle has a grease fitting on the end of it that allows you to easily pump grease into it whereas the other option does not and requires manual bearing packing.
