What Is The Downside Of Using an Overrated Weight Distribution Hitch?
Question:
Hi. Im towing a 20foot with a 350# tongue weight with Blue ox spring bars rated at 750#. Im thinking that the bars are way too stiff but Im not having any issues towing my trailer. What are the downsides of using over-rated spring bars?

Expert Reply:
Using spring bars that are overrated for the total tongue weight of your trailer can cause a pretty rough ride but other wise would not actually harm anything.
If you notice the rough ride then replacing your spring bars with one that are rated for your total tongue weight would be the best option. For example if you have a Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Hitch replacing the springs bars with the # BXW4005 which are rated for 350-550lbs tongue weight would smooth the ride out.
If you have a different Blue Ox system just let me know and I would be happy to recommend the correct spring bars for you.
I included a video review of the # BXW4005 for you to take a look at.
