We can get you set up with everything you need to tow a small trailer with your 2012 Kia Soul - the hitch, wiring harness, ball mount, and hitch ball. We'll start with the hitch, and for your '12 Soul the only hitch size that fits is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4 inch receiver, and these have a 2,000 lb towing/200 lb tongue weight capacity which you'll want to keep in mind but should be plenty for a small trailer with some basic lawn equipment.
Then for the wiring harness the best option is from Tekonsha as they make the most reliable trailer wiring harnesses, and will fit a 2012 Soul with both LED and non-LED taillights. I'll go ahead and make a list for you of all the parts you will need for your towing set up.
- Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24839
- Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118637
- Draw-Tite Drawbar # 3593
- 2" Hitch Ball # 19258 or 1-7/8" Hitch Ball # 19256
- Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat # 18144
The right hitch ball will depend on the ball size your trailer coupler accepts; it is likely a 1-7/8" ball for a small trailer, but in case it is a 2" ball I wanted to be sure to cover all the bases. Otherwise, those parts will be all you need for towing with your 2012 Kia Soul.
