Question:
Why is the Swagman XP 5 bike rack, not designed for use on trailers? I would like the extra room and I do not want the lock design on the four place version. Would it be possible to get an additional screw/handle to replace the locking one?

The Swagman XP - Folding 5 Bike Rack for 2" Trailer Hitches # S64970 is not built heavy duty enough to withstand the excess bouncing and stress placed on the carrier when mounted at the back of a travel trailer or 5th wheel trailer. The 5-bike version is too much weight for the design, but the 4-bike version is certainly compatible with travel trailers and 5th wheel trailers.
I recommend going with the Swagman XP - 4 Bike Rack for 2" Trailer Hitches # S64940. And since you don't plan on using the locking knob to secure all 4 bikes, you can replace it with Replacement Non-Locking Knob # P1041.
If you did have a 5th bike and happened to have a ladder made of 1" tubing on the back of your trailer then you could use Surco 2 Bike Carrier Ladder Mount # SP501BR. Another option for a 5th bike is to install a roof rack onto your tow vehicle's roof and add a bike rack to that. I attached a few demonstration videos for you.
