How to Match Height of Lifted 2002 Short Bed Truck with 5th Wheel Trailer

What kind of hitch and or kits do i need to get the camper above bed rails? Sorry i have a 3in body lift.

Expert Reply:

Trucks with a body lift inherently pose a challenge for towing. In some cases a body lift will reduce towing capacity of the vehicle (you can check with the manufacturer of your lift kit to see if this is the case). We do not offer any sort of adapter/kit to raise the height of the 5th wheel hitch in your truck bed.

If you have already raised the hitch head to its highest position and it still does not allow your trailer to clear the bed rails, your options are limited to 1) adjusting your pin box to its lowest possible mounting position (you should contact your trailer/pin box manufacturer to see if this is permissible); and 2) doing an over-under axle conversion on your trailer (again, you will need to speak to your trailer manufacturer to see if this is possible.

Neither of these is really a good option since one will cause your trailer to come out of level and the other will raise its center of gravity. For safety reasons your best option for towing your 5th wheel is to remove the lift kit from your truck.
