Recommended Roof Rack Setup For Carrying A Tent On A 2013 Subaru Outback Wagon

Question:

Im getting a roofnest for my husband and was told I may need to get crossbars...Not sure what any of this means but the owner of roofnest sent the below: I recommend buying the after market crossbars made by Yakima for the outback. It will make mounting the tent easier and also be a better platform for your roofnest. Not too sure what I need to purchase, can you assist?

Yes, I would be happy to assist you and I know exactly what you need. A nice Yakima setup for your vehicle includes the following: Yakima JetStream Crossbars 50" Long # Y00425, Mounting Towers # Y00148, and Pad For Towers # Y00239. Locks are not included, but you can use # Y07204 to add locks which will keep the crossbars secured to your roof.

While the setup mentioned above is a really high-quality setup that will work well for you, there is a more economical setup that will also work for your vehicle and it is the Malone AirFlow 2 Aero Crossbars 58" # MPG216. This kit comes with everything you need and it is a fraction of the price; it even has the same 165lb weight capacity as the Yakima setup. These bars also come with built-in locks whereas the Yakima requires you to add locks if you want them. Another thing to note is that the Malone bars are 8" longer which will come in handy. I attached demonstration videos for both setups.
