Do Trailer Axle Spring Centers Have to Match Perfectly
Question:
Hi, I welded new spring seats onto a new pair of axles. I measured poorly and I am 1/8inch off on each mount. Is this an allowable difference? Spring Centers on axles are 73-3/4inch frame mounts are 74.

Expert Reply:
If the spring seat dimension on the axle does not match up the suspension won't work properly as it will be bound up instead of able to move freely. This also would cause premature failure of the components as well so I'd have to recommend you reinstall them in a better location.
