Which B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Hitch for 2005 Ford F-150

Question:

Hi, we have a 2005 F150 5.3 with suicide doors. We have been told that we need a 16000 sliding hitch to tow our Fifth wheel. Does this hitch make up for the sliding in its versatility or do we need a sliding hitch?

The hitch option you'd need will depend on your bed length. If you have the 8 foot bed, the # BWRVK3200 you'd looked at would be perfect along with the # BWRVK2404 install kit.

If you have a 6-1/2 foot 'standard' bed, you'll need a sliding hitch to provide proper clearance between the front of the 5th wheel and the rear of the truck cab. The # BWRVK3200 would not provide that clearance, but the sliding version, part # BWRVK3270 is what you'd want to use. You'll also need the # BWRVK2404 bracket/bed rail kit.

If you have the 5-1/2 foot bed, you'd use the # BWRVK3200 you'd originally looked at along with the bracket and rail kit mentioned above, but you'd also need to replace the existing pin box on your 5th wheel with a Sidewinder rotating pin box which would relocate the pivot point between the truck and the 5th wheel from the point where the king pin site in the hitch jaws to a point 22 inches rearward, where the pin box attaches to the 5th wheel.

The Sidewinder model you'd need will depend on the manufacturer and model number of the OEM pin box (typically listed on a plate or sticker on the pin box). I'll link you to an article that further explains how the Sidewinder works, which also contains a listing of which Sidewinder models fit which OEM pin boxes. If you go with the Patriot hitch, you'll also need a # SWW-06 wedge which keeps the pin box from rotating at the hitch. If you'd care to reply with the manufacturer and model number of your OEM pin box, I'd be happy to make a Sidewinder recommendation.

Finally, if you'd like to install a 7-way trailer connector in your truck bed so you don't need to run the trailer connector cable up over the tailgate, you can use part # C56000. You can see an install video by using the provided link.
