Question:
I’m considering the Thule Force and Motion roof boxes. The Motion would match my car’s black finish but I’m concerned about how much the glossy finish might scratch compared to the matte Force. The reviews don’t seem to indicate they scratch easily but do you all have a recommendation? Is the price differential for the glossy Motion worth it or is the matte Force a smarter buy?

The Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box - 16 cu ft - Black Glossy # TH629706 and Thule Force XT L Rooftop Cargo Box - 16 cu ft - Black AeroSkin # TH6357B are both really nice cargo boxes that can be opened from either side. They both install very simply onto crossbars by using the included clamps with rotating knobs so that no tools are required. Both boxes also have integrated tie-downs points to secure any belongings inside the box.
That being said, the glossy paint on the Motion will be more prone to scratches and other minor imperfections from road debris, while the textured matte finish on the Force will hold up better and will not get easily scratched. The Motion certainly isn't known to get easily scratched or damaged, however, the Force textured paint definitely has an advantage in terms of durability. This is the only real difference between these two boxes, so if the more durable paint finish appeals to you then I would go with the Force black aeroskin. I attached demonstration videos for both boxes.
