Should 16000lb or 20000lb Reese Goose Box Be Used On Trailer With 15940lb GVWR?

Question:

I have a 5th wheel that I would like to add a Reese Goosebox to. The GVWR of the trailer is 15,940 pounds. Even though the 16,000 pound hitch is technically rated more than that, would you recommend upgrading to the 20,000 pound since it is so close?

As long as your trailer has a Lippert 1621/1621 HD pin box I would go with the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter - Lippert 1621 - 16,000 lbs # RP94716 since your trailer has a GVWR just under 16000lbs. You will not have any issues even though it is close to the rating of the pin box.

There is nothing wrong with going with the heavier duty # RP94720 with a 20000lb rating, but it is a bit more expensive and you will not need the extra weight capacity. If you would rather have the extra capacity for peace of mind it will still fit just fine.

I included videos for both of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
