How to Balance a Load When Towing With a 2020 Dodge Durango

Question:

Can I add a load balancing option hardware to Draw-Tite Class III Max FrameĀ # 76196 and do you sell it?

If you are referring to rubber spacers/washers that would install between the frame and the Draw-Tite 76196, allowing it to flex and level out when there is more weight on one side, then we do not. We also highly discourage installing the hitch in this manner. These have specific torque ratings for the install to keep everything secure to the vehicle. If these are not followed, there could be a catastrophic failure while towing a trailer or carrying an accessory, which would be very bad. However, if this is still a concern, we do have a couple options to alleviate any distress.

The first option is a quick and easy one. The Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061 will secure either a ball mount or hitch accessory to said hitch and keep anything from moving. This will work very nicely with a weight distribution system, which will be the next option.

The use of weight distribution will depend on the weight of the trailer though. As an example, the Reese Strait-Line # RP66086 will handle trailer tongue weight from 200 pounds at the minimum to 600 pounds at the maximum. This will not only distribute the tongue weight out and help keep everything level when towing, it will also significantly reduce and or prevent sway as well.

The last option we will have will be to supplement your suspension. This can be done with the Air Lift 1000 Air Helper Springs # AL60824. These will install directly inside the coil springs and, when filled to the maximum 35 psi, will add up to 1,000 pounds of support when needed. They can also be deflated down to 5 psi when not needed, making them feel nonexistent. Each bag can have its own separate air line run to it so one side can be filled more than the other as well.

These three options can all be used in unison, or separately as well.
