Question:
I read all about this, but does the steering column need to be unlocked or is it just in neutral that lets the SUV follow the RV.

Looking at the online manual for a 2018 GMC Acadia it says you need to:
1. Position the vehicle that will be towed and secure it to the towing vehicle.
2. Remove the shift lever boot by pulling up on the rear of the trim plate.
3. Use a small screwdriver or tool to press and hold the manual release button on the rear right.
4. Put the vehicle in N (Neutral).
The vehicle's ignition will need to be in the ACC/Accessory position for as as long as you are towing. It also recommends running the car at the beginning of the day for 3 minutes and during fuel stops to ensure the transmission is properly lubed. I recommend checking your vehicle's specific owner manual to ensure you follow all instructions needed to make your flat towing experience a safe one.
If you're needing any equipment to flat tow your 2018 GMC Acadia I recommend the following:
Tow Bar: Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000lbs Item # RM-522. This tow bar has non-binding feature that makes connecting and disconnecting the arms on uneven surfaces a breeze.
Tow Bar Wiring: Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit Item # RM-154. This wiring kit is a one time set up that will use your vehicle's lights.
Base Plates: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms Item # RM-523189-5.
Safety Chains: Curt Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables with S-Hooks - 42" Long - 5,000lbs - Qty 2 Item # C80151.
Braking System: Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System - Proportional Item # HM39524. This system is one that will require set up each time that you want to tow your vehicle but isn't too intense to set up. It also comes with a battery charger to keep your vehicle's battery charged while towing.
