Best Quiet Weight Distribution Hitch For 450 to 500 lb Tongue Weight

Question:

I need a new weight distribution hitch as my current setup is without one and the wind in Utah and Colorado is causing me a lot of stress. My vehicle dips down a lot, chains almost dragging. My trailer weighs 4500 lbs and the tongue Weight is 465 lbs. I would like a lightweight and quiet hitch. Tow vehicle is a 2017 Highlander AWD xle.

Thanks so much for that good information, and we can get you exactly what you are looking for - a quiet weight distribution hitch that is rated correctly for your 465 lb tongue weight and provides outstanding sway control. For that the best option is from Blue Ox:

- Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution with Sway Control # BXW0550

This system, which is rated for tongue weights between 350 lbs and 550 lbs, is quiet because it is a chain-style so you won't hear the noise that comes with the bars of the friction-style systems. It is also much easier to use than other systems because once you clamp on the brackets, you insert the chains into them and just tighten them with the provided wrench. This is different than other systems where you have to measure and re-measure to get the right number of chain links.

The SwayPro # BXW0550 also has four points of sway control at the head and at the brackets which offers the best prevention you can get against trailer sway, ensuring you have the most controlled, comfortable, and safe towing experience. Another really nice feature of the SwayPro is that if you ever decide to get a different trailer with a different tongue weight, you don't have to replace the whole set up like you would with other systems, you can just replace the spring bars and you're set.

The only other thing you will need with this system is a hitch ball, either a 2" or 2-5/16" ball, depending on the size of your trailer coupler; the correct one will be either of the following:

- 2" Hitch Ball # A-90

- 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40008

I have added a link below to a video review for you to check out as well if you'd like to take a look.

Question:

Could I use the bxw0650?

Yes, you can use the Blue Ox BXW0650 as well, which is the TrackPro system; our part number for this system is the following:

- Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution with Sway Control # BLU36FR

This has a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs to 600 lbs so it's exactly in the range you need. It will work well for you and provide really nice sway control, though I should mention it won't be as quiet as the # BXW0550 because it uses friction at the sway bars to minimize sway.

It does come with everything you need, however, including a 2-5/16" hitch ball; if your trailer has a 2" ball you will need to add the 2" Hitch Ball # A-90.
