Clearance Of Cargo Basket On 2020 Kia Sorrento W/ Flush Siderails

Question:

I have a sun/moon roof that extends 3/4 the length of my 2020 Kia Sorento EX. I have factory installed flush-mounted cross bars that run the length of the vehicle. I also have a set of Vault cross bars which I can attach to the factory-mounted bars horizontally on the roof. My question is whether or not the cargo basket would sit high enough on the additional horizontal bars for the sunroof to clear it in the event the sunroof is accidentally opened. I would not intend to use the sunroof when the cargo basket is attached but I also don’t want to have to take the cargo basket on and off regularly if avoidable. I saw in the comments that someone that has an older Kia Sorento with sun/moon roof was able to use this basket by mounting additional horizontal cross bars - but not sure on the 2020 if it would work. Also, can you please advise what distance the additional horizontal crossbars need to be from one another for the basket to fit? Thank you!

Expert Reply:

Your 2020 Kia Sorrento has flush siderails, which are closer to the roof than a raised siderail. Since they are closer to the roof of your vehicle you are not going to be able to operate your sunroof with the rack on your vehicle. Even if there is enough room between your rack and the sun roof. There will not be enough room between the sunroof and the clamps that hold the Yakima LoadWarrior Roof Rack Cargo Basket - Steel - 44" Long x 39" Wide, part # Y07070, on your roof rack. The basket fits but you need to be careful not to open the sunroof with it. The crossbar spread should be from 24" - 32".

I have included a product description link and a video review link below.
