Is 165 lbs The Capacity of Rhino-Rack Roof Rack or of 2015 Chevy Malibu

Question:

I have a 2015 Chevy Malibu with no existing rails or crossbars. Im trying to determine the best crossbar system to purchase to maximize the load I can carry. I have 2 kayaks, each about 57.5lbs. I also have a kayak carrier that weighs about 10 to 15lbs estimated. So, I need a crossbar system that will itself support at least 130lbs, but also one whose combined weight, along with the load being carried on top of it dont exceed my vehicles dynamic roof load capacity. Ive tried locate this roof load limit in my owners manual, but wasnt able to find it. Additionally, I called Chevrolet support, and they werent able to provide this info either. I can see this Rhino-Rack can support 165lbs, but is that the limit of the rack, or the limit I could carry on my particular vehicle?

The 165 lb weight limit is the capacity of the Rhino-Rack roof rack that fits your 2015 Chevy Malibu, and not of the vehicle itself. I was also unable to find this capacity, but there's no reason at all Chevy shouldn't be able to tell you this as they manufacture the vehicle so I recommend contacting them again and insisting on an answer one way or another. They may say that the capacity is whatever the roof rack can handle, and I cannot imagine you would have any issues with the weight of your kayaks.

So I do recommend going with the Rhino-Rack roof rack that fits your 2015 Chevy Malibu for its 165 weight capacity and high-quality at a price lower than other name-brand racks. The parts that fit your vehicle are the following:

- Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars - Silver # RRVA126S-2 or Black # RRVA126B-2

- Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs # RRRLKVA

- Custom DK Fit Kit # DK338
