Base Plate & Tow Bar For 2001 Dodge Ram Van

Question:

I’m in the driveaway business. I’ve bought a 2001 dodge ram van full-size conversion van. I plan to install a driveshaft disconnect so I can flat tow it. All the tow bars I’m seeing that will work with the weight of my van are the type that stow on the back of the motor home. I’m wondering if there is a setup similar to the stowmaster that will stow on the front of my van. Blue ox does make a base plate for my van. Any help and pricing you guys can help me with would be great. I know I will neeed a break buddy

There is a base plate and tow bar that will work for your 2001 Dodge Ram van, but there isn't a coupler-style tow bar because like you said, they just don't have the capacity for your heavy van. You are correct there is an option for a base plate from Blue Ox, as well as a tow bar that has the capacity you need, which are the following parts:

- Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1966

- Blue Ox Avail Tow Bar # BX7420

The Avail tow bar will work with these base plates and has a 10,000 lb capacity, which based on my research is enough to tow your van, though you'll want to verify that. You will also need lights, and the best option for an easy install and good value are magnetic lights, the Hopkins Magnetic Tow Lights # C6304.

You are correct you will also need a braking system, and you mentioned Brake Buddy so what you will want is a portable unit that is easy to use and allows you to adjust the braking power to safely stop your large van, the Brake Buddy Classic 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39494.

I have added links below to some video reviews for you to check out as well if you'd like to take a look.
