Will The Swagman Chinook Clear a Spare Tire on a 2006 Honda CR-V?

Will this fit with a spare tire on the back of the vehicle

I have a great alternative for you. The rear spare tire clearance measurement of your 2006 Honda CR-V depends on what hitch you have installed on your vehicle. If you have a receded hitch like the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # 24772, there is about 11 inches from the hitch receiver pin hole to the outside edge of the spare tire. If you have a hitch receiver that is closer to the edge of you rear bumper like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13535, you are looking at about 8-1/2 inches from the hitch receiver pinhole to the outside edge of the spare tire.

Unfortunately, with both of those approximate measurements, the distance between the pin hole of Swagman Chinook's # S64683 shank and the closes part of the rack (when folded up) is 6 inches. With this measurement, it will not clear the end of your spare tire. The only way to use the Chinook and clear your spare tire is with a hitch extender # C45791 (if you have a 2-inch hitch receiver) and # D189 (if you have a 1-1/4 inch receiver). It is important to note that when using a hitch extender, it reduces your overall hitch weight capacity by 50%.

If you want to clear your spare tire without using an extender, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # HR200Z. The Trail Rider has a really long shank that measures 12-1/8 inches from the pinhole to the closest part of the rack. With this shank length, it will allow you to clear the bumper and spare tire without decreasing the weight capacity of your hitch. Also, the Trail Rider is designed to fit both 1-1/4 inch and 2-inch hitches.
