Parts Needed To Wire Taillights Of a 2014 Kia Sorento To Motorhome When Dolly Towing

Question:

I need to order a trailer hitch and wiring harness for which I was ing a Curt C12113 and T-One 118269. The big question is I want to dolly tow the Sorento behind our motorhome and would like to utilize the Sorentos taillights rather than magnetic lights. What additional items do I need to connect the Sorentos tail lights to my motorhomes 7 pin connector. I already have a 7 to 4 pin adapter similar to the etrailer 118709. Is there an all in one plug in harness it has the factory tow package connectors that provides a toad connection to the motorhome and trailer wiring for the Sorento? Thanks

There unfortunately is not a plug n play harness that will allow you to connect to your factory tow package or taillights on your 2014 Kia Sorento, but I do have a kit that will work for what you need and I'll explain more why you need this particular kit.

Once you have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12113 and T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118269 installed that you picked out, you will then want to turn your attention to the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154. This kit will have all the wiring you need to wire your Sorento for dolly towing as you already have the 7-way to 4-way connector.

The diode kit is typically used on flat towed vehicles but it will do what you are looking for on your Sorento. The diodes prevent power from back-feeding into the vehicle wiring harness. If this happened it could cause damage to the electrical system on your Sorento. The diodes allow power to come into the taillight from either the factory harness of the Sorento or the additional 4-way flat connector that you will be using on the motorhome.

I have linked a installation video below of an install on a Jeep as we do not have any with your Kia. While most of the installation will be similar with routing the wires to the taillights the wires that you splice into will be specific on your Sorento. A Test Light # PTW2993 will allow you to probe your taillight wiring to determine which wire you will connect each function to.
