Accessing the rear of your vehicle is important, even when you are carrying bikes. Since your rear hatch open to the side, we have to find you an option that does not include a tilt down mast on your hitch bike rack. I will include a solution to this problem in my hitch receiver and hitch bike rack recommendations.

I recommend you get the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2", part # C13149. This hitch receiver has a maximum tongue weight of 525 lbs and a maximum gross trailer weight of 3,500 lbs. You will still need to add an adapter to your hitch bike rack in order to access the rear of your RAV 4. Please keep in mind, anytime you add an adapter to your hitch bike rack system, you reduce the maximum tongue weight of your hitch receiver by 50%. However, adding that hitch adapter will allow you to open your rear hatch, even when your are carrying bicycles.

The Kuat NV 2.0 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount - Gunmetal Gray, part # NV22G, you showed an interest in will work for your vehicle. It comes with an anti-rattle hitch bolt that eliminates movement between the hitch receiver and the rack itself, providing your rack with extra stability. The rack can be locked to your vehicle and you can lock your bikes to the rack. This rack will hold your bike by the wheels, which protects the frame of your bike.

The last item you need in order to make this work for you is the Kuat Pivot 2 Swing Away Hitch Extender for Bike Racks - 2" Hitches - Driver's Side, part # PVD20B. It will allow you to swing your bike rack open 90ยบ in the opposite direction of your rear hatch door, giving you the necessary clearance to access the rear of your vehicle even when carrying bikes. Please keep in mind the weight of your rack, 52 lbs, the weight of your adapter, 46 lbs, and the weight of the bikes you are carrying cannot exceed the reduced maximum tongue weight of your hitch receiver. You should be able to that maximum tongue weight in the owner's manual of your hitch receiver.

I have included product description links and video review links below.
