Determining If 14 Wheels On Trailer Can Be Replaced With 15 Wheels

Question:

I would like to change my wheel size from 14” LRD to 15” LRE. My bolt pattern is 5 on 41/2. Do I have to change my hubs? I also have ebrakes if that matters.

I would be happy to help!

You do not need to change your hubs to upgrade from 14" wheels to 15" wheels, you will just need to make sure your trailer has enough clearance to fit the larger tires that are used on 15" wheels.

The Westlake ST225/75R15 # LHWL304 you were looking at measure 28.3" tall by 8.8" wide so you will need to compare that to the dimensions of your current 14" tire. If your trailer currently has the ST205/75R14 like the # AM10235 then the tire is 26.3" tall and 8.1" wide, and you would need to measure your clearance.

To fit the larger tires you would need at least 4" clearance from the top of your current tires to the bottom of the fender.

Since the overall height is pretty close in size you shouldn't have a problem, but measuring is the only way to be sure.

Lastly we have a wide variety of 15" wheels that have the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern you need, but out of them the # AM22653 is my favorite due to its design, but also due to it having the highest capacity at 2150lbs.

I included videos of the products mentioned and a link to all of our 15" wheels with the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern for you to take a look at.
