Will Grease Seal Included With CE Smith Trailer Hub CE13110 Work On Spindle With 1.250 Seal Surface?

Hello, I have a older ~1950-60s trailer and I am trying to hunt down a replacement hub for it. It is a 1 inch straight shank axle, the outside inner bearing is a Tyson 07100 which cross references with the L44643 from my research. However, I am coming up to a wall with the grease seal. I didnt measure axle at the grease seal when I had the hub pulled off, but I know that I ordered replacement grease seals last year on my rebuild and they were National 6906S. According to OReillys website the outside seal diameter is 1.972. The seal in the most of the 4 on 4 hubs on the site look like they have an outer diameter of 1.983inch but are double lip. The inside diameter is maybe .001inch difference but OReillys website may have just rounded it up / tolerances will make them about the same. Should I measure my axle shaft and see what it truly measures, or will the inner lip/diameter seal it enough and will the extra .011inch be okay or is there another hub option that better suites what I have? This hub will be submerged for launching. Thank you for your help!

Since you know your grease seal is the National 6906S which has a 1.250" I.D. the grease seal included with common hubs like the # CE13110 which has the # L44643 bearings you need have will work perfectly. This seal has the same inside diameter at 1.249", so it will fit your spindle perfectly. In addition the double lip seal is what you really want for a trailer that will be submerged in water like yours as it will do a much better job at keeping water out than a single lip seal.

The outside diameter of the seal does not really matter, as that is dependent on the opening on the hub and not the seal surface of the spindle. As long as the I.D. of the seal matches that is all that matters.
