What Does an OC Error Code Mean on a Valley Journey HD Trailer Brake Controller

Question:

We have 2006 gmc 2500 truck. We are pulling a fifth wheel. We got an error code of OC. Can you tell me what that means.

A flashing OC message on the Valley Journey HD brake controller means that the trailer brake circuit is lost or intermittent. With no trailer connected, the brake controller might think there is a connection for some reason. It will also do this for a few moments after the brake circuit (trailer) is disconnected.

Check for any loose wires under the dash. I also recommend cleaning the vehicle and trailer connectors as dirt or corrosion could be causing the problem. Also try sliding the manual override all the way to the left, then letting it snap back. Do this several times. This will clean the contacts on the brake controller and might help to alleviate the issue.

You can also try severing the blue wire on the back of the brake controller and testing to see if it is sending a signal through the blue wire when it is supposed to (when applying the brake or when using the manual override). Use a circuit tester like # PTW2979 if needed. I have included a link to our FAQ article on troubleshooting brake controllers for you.

There is also the possibility that the brakes on the trailer are the problem. You can follow the other FAQ I have linked to test the brakes.

The "SC" error code indicates a short circuit somewhere on your wiring. As best you can, inspect the brake output wire (blue) from the controller back to the 7-Way, looking for any exposed or pinched sections that need to be replaced. Also inspect the 7-Way itself for any corrosion built up that needs to be cleaned out. If this doesn't help please let me know.
