If you still need a hitch installed on your 2006 Nissan Murano, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13571. The Curt Receiver has a class III rating, and will be able to handle 3,500 pounds of gross towing weight and 350 pounds of tongue weight. As far as construction, the Curt hitch will be able to take a beating either on or off-road. The hitch bolts securely to your Murano's frame and comes with all installation hardware included.

As far as an adapter, you will not need an adapter for a 2-inch hitch if you are using an accessory that is designed to fit a 2-inch hitch receiver. However, if you wish to fit a differently-rated accessory like one that is designed to fit only 1-1/4" receivers, you will need an adapter like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter - 2" # C45770.

As far as security, if you are buying a compatible bike rack like the Yakima SingleSpeed Bike Rack for 1 Bike # Y02481, the rack comes with a locking hitch pin (which secures the rack to the hitch) and same-key locks (which secures the bike to the rack). Depending on what bike rack you wish to purchase, you may need to buy these extra accessories.

If you have a bike rack in mind or if you need a suggestion, I would be happy to assist you if you provide those extra details of what you are looking for.
