Parts Needed To Add 7-Way Connector and Wireless Trailer Brake Controller To 2021 Subaru Outback
Question:
I just purchased a one-axle A-liner camper 1700 lbs with electric brakes. I had the dealer install a factory hitch when I purchased my 2021 Subaru Outback Touring XT, which has a 4-pin connector pre-installed. I am leaning toward purchase of a wireless brake controller, likely your Item # C51180. What would you suggest for adding a needed 7-pin connector? How is this done? Is this better for dealer installation? I am also concerned about mounting it without messing up my bumper cover.

Since your 2021 Subaru Outback Touring XT has the factory 4-way connector I recommend using the 7-way Connector Kit # ETBC7L which is designed specifically for wireless trailer brake controllers.
This 7-way plugs into your current 4-way connector and only requires two connections. The white wire gets grounded to the frame of your Outback, and the black wire gets run to the positive terminal of your battery with the included 40 amp circuit breaker.
To mount the connector to your trailer your best bet is using the Long No-Drill Mounting Bracket # 18136 and bend it so that it fits on your hitch and puts the 7-way connector in a location that works for you.
Lastly for the trailer brake controller I recommend the Curt Echo Wireless # C51180. This will plug directly into the newly installed 7-way connector, and can be used with any vehicle that has a functional 7-way connector. The benefits of the wireless connector is it does not require any wiring or drilling holes in the dash of your new vehicle.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
