There are a few things that you will want to consider when looking at bike racks for your 2005 Honda CR-V. First, since the door opens off to the side, you would need to remove the bikes if you used a bike rack like # S64683 or on a traditional hanging bike rack.

The other thing to consider is the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole straight back to the distance required to clear the spare tire on your CR-V. On Class III hitches we have installed on CR-Vs of the same generation as yours, we have found this distance to be approximately 9 inches, but measuring on your specific CR-V is essential. I have included a link to an FAQ that will help you.

I recommend going with a swinging bike rack like the Thule Apex, # TH9027XT. You can keep the bikes loaded on the carrier and swing it off to the side of the vehicle so you can fully open the rear door on your CR-V. The Apex measures 12 inches from the center of the hitch pin to the back of the upright bar. As long as the distance to clear your spare is less than 12 inches this rack will fit.

If you have any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical mens bikes) then I recommend using adapter bar # TH982XT. This will allow you to carry the bikes more level and provide better ground clearance. I use these bars and without them my wifes bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my sons bike at all. I have incldued a link to a video that shows how the adapter works.
