Replacement for Dexter Drum 8-283

Question:

Is there a replacement part for this drum. The drums Ive come across do not have the correct race/seal bores to allow reinstallation on the axle.

After doing some research it looks like this is an obsolete hub/drum without a direct replacement. The inner bearings it uses are # LM67048 and the race is # LM67010. For the outer bearings it uses # L44649 and the race is # L44610.

We do have one possible replacement for you, the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum for 3,000-lb Axles - 10" Diameter - 5 on 4-1/2 # 008-418-02. The difference between this and the 8-283 will be the seal, right now you have a # 10-42 grease seal with an inner diameter of 1.75". The seal this hub and drum uses is the # 58846 with an inner diameter of 1.719". Since this has a smaller diameter and is only a difference of .031" you might be able to get this to work, but you would need to be careful when putting the seal on.

Outside of this possibility we do not have a replacement and you would be looking at a replacement axle along with new hubs and drums that fit. I have attached a review of this hub and drum for your reference.
