Recommended 4-Pole To 7-Pole Adapter For 2021 Jeep Cherokee Trailer Brake Controller

2021 Jeep Cherokee Latitude: Just inquiring how the backup lights on my travel trailer will work from the 4 way connector part number- 118779 to the 7 way part number- 30717. I noticed there is a yellow wire on the 7 way, but is there separate connector that connects to backup lights on the Cherokee for them to work?

The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Connector # 118779 is going to wire into your 2021 Jeep Cherokee and run to the rear to allow you to connect to your travel trailer using a 4-wire plug to send braking/turning signals. If your trailer doesn't have a 4-wire plug connection and instead has a 7-way then you would need to use an adapter like the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Way RV Style to 4-Way Flat # C57271. This will allow your braking and turning signals to run to your trailer.

The Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector # 30717 can connect to a 4-wire plug like the # 118779 to switch it from a 4-wire to 7-wire plug. This will work for transferring light signals but in your case you'll be using a brake controller so you'll need to fully wire in this adapter to send your braking signals to the trailer brakes as well. The yellow wire is the is 12V power for reverse lights or reverse lockout and can be tapped into your backup circuits to send the signal through your 7 pole connector.

I highly recommend getting the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7 instead as this will come with everything you need for installation all in one package. I also recommend using some Dielectric Grease # 11755 at your 4 pole and 7 pole connections to ensure a clean watertight seal.
