Is My Trailer Hitch Supposed To Be Under My Subaru Bumper?

Hello, I have a draw tite hitch from a 2002 outback installed on my 2003 that sits 3-4inch back under the bumper. Is that typical of this year? Im not liking the ease accessing hitch receiver needed for my 2inch adapter due to the location. Using it for my 2 bike rack. Thank you for your help.

For your 2003 Subaru Outback Wagon this generation does have a recessed location for trailer hitches.

You could try the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter # C45785 it will extend your receiver past the bumper, please note that it will decrease load capacity by 50% so make sure that you stay under 150 pounds for your Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36284 and you will be fine.
