Comparing Draw-Tite Hitch and EcoHitch for 2021 Toyota RAV4

Question:

I was looking at the Draw-Tite 76201 and EcoHitch EH97FR for my 2021 Toyota RAV4. The EcoHitch looks sturdier and thicker, and I like the idea of the extra towing capacity although I don't know that I would need it. Which one would you recommend?

Both the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76201 and the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # EH97FR are Class III hitches with a 2" receiver. Both have a concealed cross tube so the only thing that is visible is the receiver tube once it is installed.

As you mentioned, there is a difference in the towing capacity of these two hitches. The EcoHitch has a maximum gross trailer weight of 5,000 lbs and tongue weight of 750 lbs. The Draw-Tite has a max gross trailer weight of 4,500 lbs and tongue weight of 675 lbs. From what I have found these both exceed the towing capacity of the RAV4 so the capacity difference isn't that important. You will want to check your owner's manual to see what your particular RAV4 is capable of. Another thing worth mentioning while talking about capacity is that the Draw-Tite can use a weight distribution hitch, the EcoHitch cannot. So if that is something you are wanting the Draw-Tite would be the way to go.

Another difference is the installation, the EcoHitch requires some trimming where the Draw-Tite does not. The other main difference is the appearance. I agree that the EcoHitch does have a sturdier appearance. It also has more of a rugged look with the coating that is used. The Draw-Tite has a different coating that seems to be a thinner semi-gloss.

If I had to recommend one I would choose the EcoHitch for the appearance and finish., but ultimately it is more of a personal preference. Another thing worth mentioning is that the Draw-Tite can use a weight distribution hitch, the EcoHitch cannot. So if that is something you are wanting the Draw-Tite would be the way to go.

Since it sounds like you plan on doing some towing, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118801 to add a 4-way connection to your vehicle. This wiring harness plugs into existing wiring and will allow you to power your trailer's signal lights. If you also need a ball mount, I recommend the # 989899 ball mount kit which includes a 1-7/8" and 2" ball.

I have attached some installation and review videos for your reference.
