Question:
My boat and trailer is weighing in around 7500 but a 36inch chain seems to be very long for my set up. By changing or shortening the chain will it change the sheer point higher or lower? I believe 30inch may be a good length. would you recommend a good set up for me please?

The safety chain weight capacities are not doubled so you'll need to choose a chain that meets or exceeds the loaded weight of the trailer. The shortest option we have that will cover a 7,500 lb trailer is the Buyers Products 3/8" x 35" Class 4 Trailer Safety Chain part # 337B03835SC which measures 35" long and has a 10,000 lb weight capacity. The extra chain can be crossed to take up the slack or you can use a device like the Curt Trailer Safety Chain Holder Bracket part # C68CR. I did a review video on this device below.
