How to Stop a Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack from Moving Too Much in the Trailer Hitch

Question:

We have the Hollywood hr6500 bike rack and are using it on a 2010 Subaru Forester. There a lot of movement in the rack when traveling. We tightened the pin all the way to the side, but this did not alleviate the problem. I would like to have your suggestions. I looked at the HRLHPTC, and wonder if this is the solution or this plus tying it down. Or??? Thanks so much.

Using an anti-rattle hitch and cable lock will add an element of security for the bike and racks but is not going to offer any additional support to reduce movement of the rack.

I do have a couple of options for you though. First, you can find some additional support from the use of a stabilization strap such as # 18050. I have linked a video that shows how this strap works.

Another option would be an additional anti-rattle device such as # RM-061 for a 2 inch hitch or # RM-061-125 for 1-1/4 inch hitches.

If you are using the rack in a 2 inch hitch and thus using the adapter sleeve that comes with the rack then could be why you are seeing some extra movement. The threaded hitch pin should take up a lot of movement but to help eliminate more you can use one of the methods above.
