What Replacement Pinions Do I Need for My 3,500 Pound Axle?

Question:

Just a clarification. I'm not looking to only change left or right. I'm asking if I can change left and right on the front axle and then keep the rear axle in place as it is.

As far as the pinion/spindle, you can replace the spindle itself, but there are a few different options as far as the inclusion of a brake flange, the diameter of the end stub, and whether the spindle is square or round. I went ahead and linked all of the available spindles we have for a 3,500 pound torsion axle. As far as the installation process, you will need to grind/drill the old ones off and weld the new ones onto the axle.

If you want an easier solution, I recommend replacing the whole axle. For a complete system with the spindles and hubs attached, I recommend the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System w Electric Brake Hubs - Straight Spindle - 3,500 lbs # A35RS545E. This system comes with a 5 on 4-1/2 lug pattern. If you want a system with the spindles without the hubs, that is the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension - Straight Spindle - Off-Road Tires - 3,500 lbs # ASR35HDS01.

With both of these solutions, I recommend making sure that no other components are damaged from the exploding hub. This is a safety precaution to make sure that there are no other components that need to be replaced.

As far as the notion of changing out only a single axle, this will unfortunately not be a good idea because of the different dimensions (height/length/width) of the replacement axle. If you did try to replace only one side, the trailer could be lopsided. With that said, I recommend replacing both sides at the same time to avoid the imbalance.

Thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately, we recommend that all of your axles have the same system/setup so that all sides will function he same. With that being said, I recommend using the Timbren axle-less system to replace all axles at the same time.
