How To Wire A 6 Way Square Motorhome Connection To A 4 Way Flat Towed Vehicle Connection

Hello, I have a 6 way outlet on the back of my 2003 motorhome. Need to convert it to a four way flat for our towed vehicle. Here are the wires at the motorhome: RED=BRAKE YELLOW=LEFT TURN GREEN=RIGHT TURN BROWN=TAILLIGHT WHITE=GROUND GREY=BACKUP I do not need to run the grey backup wire. So, how to I configure the 5 wires to the 4 way? I have already ordered and recieved: 48195, 37995 and W787270 Thanks!

Ok, the common color code for this wiring will go as follows.

Green, Right turn signal and brake light
Yellow, Left turn signal and brake light.
Brown, Running lights.
White, Ground.

You will also need a Hopkins Tail Light Converter - LED Compatible # HM48847. This will turn your extra fifth wire into the four wires. Hook this up color to color based on what functions each wire is tested for.

Now the Quick Fix (TM) 4 Pole Flat Car and Trailer Ends # 48195 will need to be wired as follows.

Exposed pin = ground (white wire on harness)
Next pin = running lights (brown wire on harness)
Third pin = left turn and brake lights (yellow wire on harness)
Last pin = right turn and brake lights (green wire on harness)

Any left over wires can be taped taped up and zip tied out of the way.

When making connections on your vehicle, check your vehicle's owner manual or use a circuit tester to confirm each wire's function prior to connecting. You can usually tap into your vehicle's wiring system with the Circuit Tester Kit # 40376 at the rear of the vehicle, behind the taillights. Activate each function (turn signal, brake lights, etc.) in turn and check for a corresponding signal from the circuit tester to make sure you have the right wire.
