Need a Fat Tire Bike Rack Rated for a Travel Trailer

looking for a 2 bike rack that will accommodate 2 fat tire electric bikes that weigh 66.5 lbs each without their batteries will attach behind our travel trailer? can you suggest the best option for us?

Expert Reply:

Having the proper rating is important to ensure the rack can hold up against the force exerted on it while being mounted to the back of the trailer as there is greater side to side movement placed on these bike racks than those mounted to the back of an automobile. The rating indicates that the bike rack has been tested and approved for that increased torque that will be applied to it due to the mass from the bikes.

My suggestion is the Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount, # Y36FR. This bike rack includes a ramp to roll the bikes up instead of having to pick up each bike to put it on the bike rack, which is great for eBikes. And the ramp stores conveniently on the bike rack when not in use. The weight capacity is 66 lbs. per bike and a max tire width of 3-1/2". If your tires are larger than this, use the Fat Tire Straps for Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack, # Y23FR.

You may want to consider the Yakima HitchLock for Yakima Hitch Mounted Bike Racks, # Y07235.

Removing the seat as well as the battery will help to reduce the weight. It is recommended to always remove the battery.
