Curt Trailer Hitch Vs. Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch on a 2022 Ford Escape

I have a 2022 Ford Escape. I am looking at a hitch for it and noticed that there are two different ones. One from Curt and one from Draw-Tite. Are there big differences between them? Nothing really stands out to me, what do you recommend?

Both the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C23FR and the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT56MR would be a great hitch for your 2022 Ford Escape. Both hitches will have a bolt-on no drill installation and provide you with a 2" receiver opening which is the most common size used for hitch mounted accessories like bike racks, cargo carriers and ball mounts. There are a few differences that I will out line for you.

The Curt # C23FR is made in the USA and has a maximum gross trailer weight of 3,500 lbs. and maximum tongue weight of 525 lbs. The Curt also has a slightly easier installation.

The Draw-Tite # DT56MR has a Maximum gross trailer weight of 4,500 lbs. and maximum tongue weight of 675 lbs.

While the Draw-Tite hitch is rated higher for towing capacity you will want to consult your Escape's owners manual for your vehicles towing limits. From what I found the Escape can range from 1,500 lbs. - 3,500lbs. maximum trailer weight depending on what model you have. Which means the Curt meets the highest your Escape could potential have making the hitches weight ratings kind of a moot point.

Personally given the easier installation and being made in the USA, I would go with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C23FR.

If you plan on towing a trailer that has lights you may want to pick up the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # TE54FR which provides a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. The T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in the rear cargo area. You will have to remove the rear threshold plate, privacy screen, storage covers, and floor covering and partially remove the rear interior trim panels to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse. You can pick up the No-Drill Mount # 18140 and the Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat # 18144 to attach your 4-way flat connector to your hitch for easy access and a cleaner appearance.

If you don't already have a ball mount and hitch ball the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989899 is a great way to get the essentials. The kit will provide you with 2 ball mounts, 2 different hitch balls, 2 pin and clips and a storage bag.
