Does Wider Trailer Width Get Split When Considering Less Sidewall Clearance
Question:
Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire with 13inch White Wheel - 4 on 4 - Load Range C Item # AM3S120 I had upgraded two yrs ago my trailer from 4.80 to Kenda 5.30-12, with no issues, just has to move the mud-guard up. I wish to upgrade to these bigger tires as I will not have to replace the axle because it has also 4 holes...it seems though the difference will be from 5.5 inches to 6.6” wide, is that correct? Does it mean this will go towards the trailer frame half an inch closer, and the same to the outer side? The 5.30-12 is already close enough to the frame, so I need to know if this one will touch the frame. Thank you.

Expert Reply:
For a tire width difference of 1.1 inch you end up splitting that additional width on either side of the wheel so you'd lose .55 of an inch of inner sidewall clearance.
