Reese Weight Distribution With Sway Control That Works With 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver

Question:

Hello, I run a 2013 3500HD with a larger trailer hitch . I have adjustable air bags for load and need to help with sway during cross country travel. I pull a 28 foot equipment hauler and a 28 foot jayco camper. My plan is to have the setup on the truck and have whatever is required on the trailer side, one each. Multiple descriptions show options for a 2 receiver, mine is the larger one. I like Reese products. Please help me determine best product.

We can get you set up with a Reese weight distribution with sway control, and that's a smart choice as their Strait-Line models offer superb control due to their dual cam system that control the spring bars and apply pressure and tighten at sudden movement. Getting the right one for two different trailers will be difficult though unless they have a very similar loaded tongue weight, because the correct system would be one in which your trailer's tongue weight falls somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.

So there are two options for Reese weight distribution with sway control that can work with a 2-1/2 inch hitch, you will just need to get the shank separately (the shank will work with either system), and you'll want to choose the one that is best for your tongue weight needs:

- Tongue Weight Between 600 lbs & 1,200 lbs: Strait-Line Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # RP66074

Then for a shank for a 2-1/2 inch hitch you can choose one of the following depending on the rise or drop you need:

- Max 9-1/4 Inch Drop/12 Inch Rise: Curt Weight Distribution Shank for 2-1/2" Hitches # C17132

- Max 6 Inch Drop/10 Inch Rise: Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank - 2-1/2" Hitch # EQ90-02-4900

Finally, you'll also need a hitch ball, and what will work for both systems is the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40008.
