Is Sliding B&W Companion Needed on 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500 w/ 6 Foot 9 Inch Bed w/o Puck System

2022 Chevy 2500 with a 6’9” box that does not have the prep package. Will be towing a Fuzion 415 Impact toy hauler. Will be adding a B+W gooseneck hitch to truck. Have read you don’t need a Companion slider because you won’t be able to close the tailgate and that the new 2500 the ball is actually behind the axle so there is clearance for turning. Then others are saying I do need a slider. I’m confused and would like a clear answer, slider or non? When I put the B+W custom under bed installation kit would it interfere with anything if I decide on adding the Firestone Ride Rite air helper springs. Thanks very much.

So the answer to your question is yes, for your 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500 with the 6 foot 9 inch standard bed, you will need the B&W Companion Slider # BWRVK3400-5W instead of the fixed B&W Companion # BWRVK3500-5W to safely execute a sharp turn without hitting the cab. The way I determined this is with the following clearance formula:

(A + B) - C = Clearance (At least 4 inches of clearance is recommended to safely execute a 90 degree turn)
A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab
B = Length of 5th Wheel Hitch Slide
C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)

Based on the bed size of your '22 Silverado 2500 (which is technically 82-1/4") and the position of the Companion, A will be 45-1/8". For the standard Companion, B will equal zero (since there isn't a slide), and your Fuzion 415 measures 100" wide, so dividing that in half, C will equal 50. With those numbers, (45-1/8 + 0) - 50 = - 5-7/8", so you are in the negative, and a sharp turn will see your 5th wheel trailer crashing into your Chevy.

But adding the 12 inches of slide from the Companion, we get 57-1/8 - 50 = 7-1/8 inches of clearance, which is well over the 4 inches needed for the proper amount of clearance, which is why you do in fact need the slider. So for your 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500, here are the parts needed, including the wiring harness (please note the Underbed Installation Kit is indeed the B&W Gooseneck):

- B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Slider # BWRVK3400-5W

- Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1020-5W

- Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness # C53CR

And in regards to air bags, I can verify for you that yes, they are 100 percent compatible with a 5th wheel hitch on your '22 Silverado 2500. The best option for air bags is from Firestone as they are made with four layers of reinforced rubber, which is a thicker, more reliable construction than other air bags. The quality of their build means not only are they going to provide your Chevy with the best support, they are also the most dependable option. The correct fit for your truck is the following:

- Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2613

I do recommend considering a compressor as well in order to ensure your air bags are always maintained to the right psi, and to make it much simpler to do so from the comfort of your cab. The easiest to use and install that is compatible is the Air Lift WirelessAIR Compressor System # AL58WQ.
