Should Holes on Side of etrailer Hitch e98839 For 2015 Subaru Forester be Plugged

I noticed that this eTrailer branded hitch has a hole on each end side of the bar. I was just wondering what the purpose of these holes are and if it would be a good idea to plug these holes. Or maybe it’s not necessary. I am just worried about water and debris could getting in those holes and sitting. Especially with all the salt they put down in the winter on our roads where I live. Thanks

You have an excellent eye! Those are actually drain holes on the side of the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98839.

The reason for the holes - which do not have to be plugged - is that the hitch is dipped in a liquid coating for rust prevention, and the holes allow the inside of the hitch to get that coating as well. The holes then allow the fluid to drain out of the hitch. So you don't have to worry about the holes causing any issues after installation of the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98839.

The hitch, which is a verified fit for your '15 Forester, is a no-drill installation, and gives you a 2" receiver for use with any accessory that fits, or for towing. If you do plan on towing with your Forester, the best option for a wiring harness due to its ease of install and highest amp rating to prevent shorts is the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11143865.
