Should The 10" Self Adjusting Electric Brakes On My 3,500 Pound Axle Be Replaced?

My three year old R-POD trailer 2900 GVW is equipped with 10inch self adjusting electric brakes. One side the pads lock up the wheel after driving awhile the pads do not retract away from the drum. I manually adjust them back only to be back against the drum after applying the brakes a few time and heating up the drum I am hoping by replacing both brake assemblies I solve the problem, or is it something else?

I would usually say that you need to check your grounds as a bad one can cause brakes to lock up, but since you mentioned having to adjust them down to get them to unlock, it is not a ground issue. With that said, it does sound like there is an issue with the self adjusting mechanism and replacing your brakes is recommended. I do also recommend replacing both brakes as it is always a good idea to do them both at the same time. This way you have the same amount of brake pad on each brake.

The Dexter 10" Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-468-469 will be the best option we currently have available for your 3,500 pound axle and they come highly recommended. This also includes both the right and left hand brake assemblies as well as the mounting hardware and adjuster plugs. This will get you back up and running properly.
