Draw-Tite or EchoHitch Trailer Hitch For 2016 Subaru Forester For Bike Rack & Accessories

Hi there, Im interested in getting a trailer hitch to mount some accessories on my 2016 Subaru Forester primarily, a 4-bike rack, but maybe some other things like a cargo rack, etc. I do not expect to need to tow anything. I am leaning towards the Draw-Tite or the Ecohitch. I read that the Curt requires the use of a strap that might be annoying. I know the Ecohitch is concealed whereas the DrawTite might show a bit below the bumper. Are there other reasons to pick between the two? Finally, I saw several different DrawTite models on your website, and Im not sure how to select between them. Thanks

Good questions, and I can help you decide between the Draw-Tite and EcoHitch trailer hitch receivers for your 2016 Subaru Forester. Real quick I'll address the different Draw-Tite models, with the difference being one is a 2" receiver and the other has a smaller, 1-1/4" receiver. You definitely want the larger 2" receiver because the 1-1/4" has a smaller capacity and limits your options for accessories. That said, here are the part numbers for the hitches that fit your '16 Forester:

- EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7216

- Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76182

Between these two, I recommend going with the Draw-Tite # 76182, and there are a number of different reasons for that, but the biggest one is that the Draw-Tite is simply the better value. The hitch has a better price point and you won't be losing anything in regards to quality; in fact, you'll actually be gaining clearance.

When we test fit both hitches on a similar model year Forester, we found that the Draw-Tite had slightly better ground and bumper clearance, which means your bike rack or cargo carrier will be better protected from any potential contact. And as for the aesthetic, you mentioned the EcoHitch being concealed, which is true, but so is the Draw-Tite. The crosstube is hidden, so only the receiver will be showing.

So for all those reasons, the best option for your 2016 Forester, and the hitch I would put on mine, is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76182.
