Why Can't I Use the Hollywood Racks # HLY64FR on My Travel Trailer?

Question:

why wouldnt I be able to use this on my 30ft travel trailer with a factory mounted 2in hitch directly to the frame...no difference than a 5th wheel which they say its fine for. My hitch on the travel trailer is rated for 350lbs.

The reason why the Hollywood Racks RV Rider Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches # HLY64FR is not recommended to use on a travel trailer is because it is not designed to withstand the additional force that is exerted on the rack with that application. Not only is the length of travel trailers generally extend longer when attached than fifth-wheels, the attachment style of how the trailers are coupled has to do with the amount of force exerted on the hitch/bike rack as well. When manufacturers construct the rack to be compatible with trailers, the hitch capacity/mounting style, while extremely important, is paired with the torque/force exertion factor. I went ahead and attached a diagram that highlights these differences.

However, with that being said, a great high weight capacity alternative is the Swagman E-Spec Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches # S94FR. Not only does this rack provide you with the construction that will withstand the force/torque on the travel trailer, it also comes with a 70-pound maximum weight capacity. Another great thing is that the E-Spec comes with locks that protect the bikes and the rack itself.

If you plan to mount fat tires on the E-Spec that measure between 3-5 inches wide, you need the Fat Tire Adapter Kit # S64679. Also, if you plan on transporting women's bikes, children's bikes, or bikes with step-thru frames, I recommend the Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar # 64005. The adapter bar will give these bikes the straight, horizontal plane required to attach the frames to the ratcheting hooks of the E-Spec.
