Can 4,000 lb Leaf Springs Be Used with 3,500 lb Trailer Axle

I see that Dexter 4000 lb 2-eye springs will fit a Dexter 3500 lb idler axle. Will this help with hauling cargo at the 1700 load capcity? I just want to know I am being prudent and safe. I am hauling two HD motorcycles and have about 1600 weight. I DONT WANT BRAKES! THANKS!

Dexter 4,000 lb axle leaf springs like the part # e48SR for 26 inches long or part # e57SR for 25-1/4 inch would work great with a 3,500 lb axle. There would be no issue with 1,700 lbs of weight either.

Definitely looks like the springs are being overloaded and need to be replaced. You can use higher rated leaf springs but, the higher you go the stiffer the ride will be. Since we know the weight class with your axles the next step would be to…

Hey Addison, the trailer hitch replacement leaf springs part #e44SR does not come with u-bolts. We have U-bolt kits that would work though like with the part #APUBR-9.

It's okay to replace leaf springs with ones rated for more weight and pretty common to do so but keep in mind, the higher you go the rougher the ride will be. If you have a utility trailer then I'd probably opt for the higher rated 5,000 lb…
